[edit] Creating a Character

[edit] Server Selection

Once you have logged into Runes of Magic, you must select a server. After choosing your server, your character will be stuck on that server. To avoid being stuck on a server that is slow for you, try choosing one in your Country, or in the Country closest to you. Another important aspect to consider when selecting a server is what type of game play you would like to engage in. Within Runes of Magic (NA) there are two types of servers: PvE (Player vs Environment) and PvP (Player vs Player). As the names might imply, a PvE server is more dedicated to storyline and character development centered around environmental challenges, and manually entering a Battle Ground or Siege War PvP zone. Contrariwise, a PvP server is open to Player vs Player combat throughout the world without entering a designated Battle Ground. NOTE: PvP is only available after obtaining level 15, REGARDLESS of the server nature (PvP or PvE). Also unique to a PvP server is the Reputation System. A full list of PvP rules and perks can be found on the PvP Rules page of this wiki.

Note: You may create multiple charaters on multiple servers under one frogster account.

[edit] Setting Your Passwords

Runes of Magic requires two passwords, your main account password and your secondary. This secondary password is used for special actions in-game, like buying diamonds or deleting a character. It is very important that you make this password easy for you to remember as there is no current way to change this password without contacting support manually through the Frogster account ticket system and waiting for contact back. This can be a very stressful and pain-staking endeavor. Additionally, if you fail to input the correct password 5 times, your account will be suspended for an hour before you can try again. While this may seem tedious and unneeded, it is important to remember that your secondary password is a second line of defense against account hackers. Never, under any circumstance, give out your password or your secondary password. Remember that a Frogster employee will never ask for this information from you. If someone asks, they are only trying to do you harm.

[edit] Select A Gender

This portion of Character creation is rather straight forward. Would you like to be an Axe swinging Viking Queen? Or perhaps a spell slinging Dumbledore lookalike? The first step in bringing those images to life is to select your gender. Currently, there is no bonus, nor penalty,to selecting one gender over the other. So whether you are playing Xena the Warrior princess, or Gandalf the Grey, in Runes of Magic your are equal and able foes.

[edit] Select A Class and Race

Let's begin with selecting a class. While it seems more logical to select your race first, there are a few variable to consider. Are you wanting to be the Elven Warrior who rescues Taborea, Axe held high and bloody from battle? Excellent! What about those of you who want to be the Elven Knight who leads his people into spiritual victory? Well, now we have a problem. Within Runes of Magic there are 4 classes that are race locked. The Knight and Priest are both locked to human characters only, while the Druid and the Warden are locked to Elves only. Why does this matter? This means that at no point in time could you ever be a Druid/Priest, or a Warden/Knight (or any other such combinations). Establishing your classes BEFORE you create your character will help you avoid heartache and disappointment when level 10 rolls around and you discover that you can't be that Knight/Druid that you longed so badly to be. To help choose a class visit the Classes page.

Now that you've decided on a class, selecting a race is simple. Did you select one of the four classes mentioned above?

If so, your race has been determined by the classes you wish to take. Simply select that race and you are ready to move on with character creation.

If not, you are free to choose either race you desire. The classes: Mage, Rogue, Warrior, and Scout can be played by either race.

[edit] Define Your Character

One of the most noted beauties of Runes of Magic is the ability to customize your character in almost every aspect (and I do mean every). This is also one of the more time consuming, but rewarding endeavors within the game. To make the vision in your head come true, Runes of Magic has various built in faces and hairstyle to choose from. You are able to select from a few colors for skin tone, as well as totally adjusting your hair color from anything as natural as brown hair to something crazy like neon orange. If face and hair-styling isn't the thing for you, fear not. We have many more selections. Runes of Magic also allows you to change everything from height, muscle size, foot size, and yes... even bust size. There is a never ending amount of combinations when creating your character's looks.

But what happens if you find out you don't like the way your character looks in your dream gear? Runes of Magic has the covered too. For a small diamond fee, you can change your character in game to look as you wish. In fact, you can even adjust your skin color further at this point than you could at the original creation page.

Note: Clicking and dragging on your character while on the character creation page will rotate the view. You can also click the "Zoom In" option to get a better look at the face of your character while you customize your appearance.

[edit] Choose A Name

You're almost ready to get your game on! The last item needed to start your time in Runes of Magic is an epic name to match your newly sculpted character. When making a name it is important to note that only letters and letters with accent marks (i.e. ù, í, ü, etc.) are allowed to be used. Also important to note, is that fact that a name may only be used once per server. Unfortunately, this is the downside of MMO's. If your name is taken you will have to make a new one to continue on.

Congratulations! You are now ready to enter the world of Taborea and start slaying monsters and taking names!
